Artificial Intelligence(AI) and Photo Software

AI appears to be the next big wave in post processing images

Many photo-editing software companies are moving towards automated processing of images and the use of AI in doing so. One such company is Skylum, who are making a big thing of their upcoming release of Skylum AI. The software looks very promising and as a Luminar 4 user, I have already pre-ordered my copy.

But did you know there are other photo editing apps out there already using AI to enhance images. Two of them being

  • Photolemur
  • Perfectly Clear

Both of these products use AI when post processing images.

Photolemur

Photolemur is actually part of the Skylum offerings, it’s difficult to understand why marketed as a separate product from their other offerings with its own website too. According to Skylum;

Photolemur is an absolutely automatic photo enhancer that uses Artificial Intelligence to apply all the enhancements your image needs, on its own. All you have to do is to import your image to the app, and the photo enhancer does everything else automatically from there.

There are two versions of the product a free version and a paid version. You can check out Photolemur here.

Perfectly Clear Complete

Perfectly Clear Complete is made by EyeQ. Many of the top printing labs around the world deploy EyeQ’s professional software for correcting images.

From an individual user perspective EyeQ has a similar offering to Photolemur in that, there is a free to use software download and a paid software download. Again, EyeQ starts out by saying;

Go beyond artificial in photo editing and get real intelligence that breathes life into all your images at one time and in just one step. We’ve spent the last 15 years pioneering automatic photo retouching and batch corrections that mimic the human eye, so you can spend less time on manual edits and more time doing what you love.

I am a user of there software and enjoy its simple functionality that underlies its powerful AI capabilities. You can download a trial a copy here.

I combine the use of Perfectly Clear Complete with DxO Photlab, whilst not an AI product, the folk at DxO have a proven background in scientifically analysing cameras and lenses, and providing that their software supports your camera and lens combination you can rely on DxO to apply automated corrections to the flaws in your camera’s sensor and lens. Check out DxO Photolab for yourself.

Using Perfectly Clear Complete and DxO Photolab together can save you hours of post processing.

    Hi Raymond,

    Thank you, Luminar AI is not released until December, Perfectly Clear Complete is available now and you can download a 21 day trial.

    Whilst both Luminar AI and Perfectly Clear Complete(PCC) both use AI, there is a fundamental difference for me. PCC, processing your images and provides you with a baseline corrected image that can be further developed or pushed in your favourite post processing software. PCC hasa very simple interface (I like it) and is purely focused on enhancing and correcting images.

    Luminar AI, goes a little further and will provide creative templates, allow sky replacement, will have a searchable browser and other AI features.

    If you simply want to get the best from your files before post processing then Perfectly Clear Complete is a great combination with Affinity.

    If you want more than that then you might want to try Luminar AI when it comes out.

    Hope that helps

    Best wishes,

    Steve
